Clock Tower in Tabriz, Iran



Clock towers are a common sight in many parts of the world with some being impressive buildings. These towers can be either freestanding or part of a church or a municipal building, such as a town hall. Of all the iconic clock towers in Iran, Tabriz Clock tower is perhaps the most famous, which is located in the middle of the city. The mansion, also known as Tabriz Municipality Palace, was built by order of King Reza Pahlavi, under the supervision of German engineers, at the site of the abandoned and ruined district of Nobar in the year 1936. The design of the Tabriz Municipality Palace is in such a way that if we look from above, a flying eagle will be seen. Needless to say that, the great popularity of Tabriz Municipality Palace is due to outstanding clock tower, which with its ringing tones every 15 minutes brings the passage of time to the locals. The façade of Tabriz Municipality Hall is in stone and the sketch of the building conforms to the examples of buildings in Germany before World War II.
