Ancient Practice of Sitting on the Floor While Eating

While you’re in Iran, even sitting down can be an exotic experience. Chairs are one of the many foreign technologies that Iran has whole-heartedly adopted, but most Iranian people would prefer to sit on the floor. Sitting on the floor while eating is an ancient culture of many Asian countries. In Iran, all family members gather around traditional table cloth, also known as sofreh, which is spread on the floor during meals. As you see in this photo, this very simple ancient practice of sitting on the floor while eating is done with our European guests in a traditional guesthouse in ancient Yazd.
