The glory of Persepolis

Persepolis was one the most glorious cities of the antiquity and it was the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire. It exemplifies the Achaemenid style of architecture and UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1979. Because medieval Persians attributed the site to Jamshid, an Iranian mythological king, it has been referred to as Takht-e-Jamshid literally meaning "Throne of Jamshid". The buildings at Persepolis include three general groupings: military quarters, the treasury, and the reception halls and occasional houses for the King.

Uppersia would recommend you engage a local guide to explain the historic ancient city and the carvings found in the site.

Art of Miniature inscribed in 2020 on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The miniature involves the design and creation of small paintings on books, textiles, walls and other items. Miniature art may be small but it’s compelling in its attention to detail.

The patterns of the miniature represent beliefs, worldviews and lifestyles in a pictorial fashion and also gained a new character through the Islamic influence.

Almost every festival has its own unique origins and customs which reflect the traditional practices and morality of the whole Iranian nation and its people. One of the the grandest and most popular festivals is Yalda Night.  Iranians have celebrated the longest night of the year for centuries on December 21 of each year.

Maharloo Salt Lake

Iran is home to so many incredible natural wonders, and the extraordinary pink lake happens to be one of them!

Less than a one-hour drive from Shiraz, Maharloo Salt Lake is not only Iran’s most accessible pink lake but also one of its most photogenic.

Most pink lakes are also saltwater lakes, in which only a few types of algae can grow and survive. With enough light and heat it produces a pink pigment that gives the water its hue. Interesting right! This is also why the colour can be best seen in summer months.

Have you ever visited the pink lake before in other countries ? Let us know your thoughts!
