5 Things Not to Do in Iran

While Iran is stunning, even an awesome country like Iran has a few challenges. If you're planning a trip to Iran, here are a few cultural faux pas you should be aware of.

Don’t show public displays of affection
That means no kissing, hugging, or putting your arm around your loved one in public. While holding hands is sometimes seen, it’s not common.
Don’t give the thumbs up
Most Iranians are aware of the positive meaning of thumbs up in many other countries. However, in Iran it is an obscene insult meaning. To be on the safe side, don’t give the thumbs up.
Don’t shake hands with members of the opposite sex in public
It is inappropriate to shake hands or touch the opposite gender, and if you go for it, it may be awkward as they may not shake your hand, they usually go for a slight bow or a nod of the head while greeting other people
Don’t bring or drink alcohol
Alcohol is forbidden in Iran, and while you might see it behind closed doors, don’t try to bring it into the country. And for the duration of your stay, there’s no drinking in public as Alcohol is not permitted at all in stores
Do Not Wear Your Shoes Indoors
Iranian people pride themselves on cleanliness, and the prospect of outside dirt inside their homes is a no-no. If you happen to visit a Japanese home, apartment or school, remember to take off your shoes at the entryway.

Hope to experience wonderful times in Iran. It would be our pleasure to help you over any issues related to your trip to Iran. Please feel free to contact us.
