Date, this sweet and nutritious fruit of Palm tree grown in tropical and warm climates, has been cultivated in Iran and many Asian countries since ancient times. Date, which is called Khorma in Persian language, contains Sucrose, Glucose, minerals and vitamins.

17% of world’s palm groves are located in southern and eastern cities of Iran, like Khuzestan, Bushehr and Bandar Abbas in the south and Sistan-Baluchistan, Jiroft and Bam in the in the southeast of Iran. In these cities, many people are busy with planting palm trees, which are considered as a very precious plant. They spend most of their time, watering the palm trees, pruning them, picking the dates and etc., in their beautiful palm groves.

They export the harvested dates to other cities and countries. The leaves and stems of palm trees are used in producing beautiful wicker baskets and mats. Even the seeds of the dates are used in baking a special bread and warm beverages. Ranginak, Kolompeh and date cookies are some of the tasty Iranian confections made with palm dates and sap of date and date vinegar are other products of this nutritious fruit.
